So you think you can dance?

Creative Education Fall Exploration
The following photos from November 2008 when the students were learning about using props and partners to express ideas with movement. They had watched the Deborah Slater Dance Company perform some amazing pieces using chairs, a suitcase, paper, hats, rope, flippers and their fellow dancers' bodies to create feeling and narrate complex stories. Our teaching artist, Lisa Bush-Finn, asked the kindergarteners and first graders to work in pairs to make a series of 3 shapes each or 6 shapes together. They had no inhibition and no lack of motivation to stretch, gesture, balance, and turn our classroom into a real choreography workshop. I just wish I could post this with Issac Hayes theme from "Shaft" which was the soundtrack for these righteous moves...
